Morrison University has offered quality, business-related education and training since 1902. The School was founded by A.F. Atkinson as the Nevada Business Institute. The original campus was located at the southwest corner of Sierra and Walnut (6th) Streets. Heald’s Business College of California purchased the Nevada Business Institute in August of 1907 and began offering classes that fall. The College emphasized individual instruction and students could take classes in different fields.

A fire swept through the College in 1945, and it was remodeled into a modern business school in 1949. Don S. Thompson, a Nevada native, purchased Reno Business College in 1964. In 1969, he moved the College to the corner of Wells Avenue and Wonder Street. MJM Colleges, Inc. and Mary Morrison (who remained president of the university until 2003) purchased Reno Business College in 1979. In 1984, the College was relocated to 140 Washington Street.

Morrison University has stuck to its business roots and today offers degrees in business-related fields, such as Accounting, Computer Science, Management, and a competitive MBA program. By training career-focused business professionals, Morrison University is dedicated to making sure that students who come prepared to learn will leave prepared to succeed.

According to the Nevada Workforce Informer, the professional and business service industry is one of the few industries in Nevada that has seen growth in recent years. Moving forward, careers related to accounting, management and computer information are expected to see long-term growth in the Reno-Sparks metro area. This includes growth for Computer Support Specialists and Computer Systems Analysts, as well as Bill and Account Collectors and Bookkeeping, Accounting, and Auditing Clerks.

In addition, management occupations, including General and Operations Managers and Sales Managers, are expected to be in high-demand in the Reno area. General and Operations Managers also have the top spot on Nevada’s Top 50 Demand Occupations list for 1994-2010, with 538 average annual job openings in Nevada.
